Spinning Through Time is made by DEBOCKDEV in Belgium. This page says what the app and this website keep about you, why, for how long, and how to have it removed. The short version: no name, no login, no ads, no tracking. The app keeps your reading progress under a random number, and the website keeps your email address only if you leave it.
The app
What it keeps
The first time you open the app, it creates an anonymous account on our server: a random identifier, with no name, email address or phone number attached. With it, the server keeps:
- which stories and slides you have read, and how far you got;
- the stories you marked as favourites;
- your settings in the app;
- for each phone you use: whether it is an iPhone or an Android phone, the app version, and when it was set up;
- a sign-in key for each phone, stored only in scrambled (hashed) form.
This lets your progress survive a reinstall and lets the app work offline, then catch up when you are back online.
What it does not do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifier.
- No analytics or tracking tools, and no crash reporting service.
- No access to your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
- Nothing is sold or shared with anyone for marketing.
Updates and photos
The app downloads story photos from our server, and checks for content updates through Expo (650 Industries, Inc., United States), the service that delivers app updates. Like any server, both see your IP address and the kind of phone when the app connects. We do not store your IP address with your reading data; our server uses it briefly to block abuse, such as too many requests in a minute.
How long, and how to delete it
- Delete it yourself: in the app, open Settings and choose Delete my data. This removes your progress, favourites and settings from the phone and from our server straight away.
- Automatic removal: an account that no phone has used for 180 days is deleted with everything in it.
- Backups: the database is backed up daily and each backup is kept for 14 days, so deleted data is gone from the backups within 14 days.
This website
The website sets no cookies and loads no analytics, fonts or scripts from other companies.
If you leave your email address on the waitlist, we keep that address, which form you used, and when. We use it for two emails at most: one when the app is in the stores, and one when race week opens. A reply to either email, or a message to the address below, removes you from the list. We do not share the list with anyone.
Where it is stored
The app's server, its database and this website run on servers rented from Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany, inside the European Union.
Why we may keep it
- Your reading progress, favourites and settings: to provide the app you chose to use (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- IP addresses for blocking abuse: our legitimate interest in keeping the service running (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Your waitlist email address: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete what we hold about you, or object to how we use it. For the app, Delete my data in Settings does this without contacting anyone. Because the app account is anonymous, we can only find it from the app itself, not from your name or email address.
If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority (dataprotectionauthority.be).

Changes
If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. If we ever start collecting something new, this page will say so before the app does it.
